What to Consider When Selecting Your Plastic Surgeon

knowledge-is-a-beautiful-thing

We understand that your search for a plastic surgeon oftentimes involves researching more than one doctor. You may call around to quite a few different offices, view numerous before and after photos and visit with several different surgeons all in your quest to find the right doctor for you. We most certainly hope to be part of your search, but even more important than that we hope you keep in mind some important factors that should be considered when selecting your plastic surgeon.

Jenny Isenman writes a helpful article in the Smart Beauty Guide for The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. She advises patients to look beyond catchy advertisements, sexy billboards and Groupon sales. She instead directs you to be mindful of 6 essential components as you begin your cosmetic surgery journey. You can find each listed below:

1.       Certification

Make sure your plastic surgeon is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery

2.       Experience

Make sure the doctor you’re considering has extensive experience (or even specializes) in the procedure you’re inquiring about

3.       Evaluation

Determine if this is the right person for YOU (not just anyone)

4.       Accreditation

Find out where the procedure will be performed and the level of accreditation the facility has

5.       Comfortability

You need to be comfortable with your doctor and feel confident in his/her abilities

6.       Affiliation

Look for one that is a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS)

Be Smart with Your Skin Before Summer is Officially Over!

sun
With just under 30 days left of summer, you might be trying to soak up the last bit of sun before the kids go back to school, you go back to school or simply because it’s beautiful out! But PLEASE remember to wear (and reapply!!) sunscreen every day!! The sun’s UV-rays break down the collagen in our skin and can wreak havoc below the surface without us even knowing until years later when the damage starts to surface. In Kaitlin Menza’s case however, she noticed the damage immediately. Kaitlin was featured on ABC’s Good Morning America last week showing us that just one sunburn can leave lasting, harmful effects. “I was surprised that it only takes one day, one afternoon, one really bad sunburn to damage your skin,” she said.

So remember, wear (and reapply!) that sunscreen! Please visit our office to learn more on how to protect your skin and let our nurse Jennifer Nieves guide you towards the best personalized treatments and products to reverse the signs of sun damage.

Nip. Tuck. Or Else. Really?

Chances are you know someone who’s had plastic surgery – she might be the girlfriend you grab coffee with on the weekend, he may be the man whose office is right down the hall from yours or she might even be your very own sister who has been complaining of her nose (you were lucky enough to have inherited a nose from your mother’s side) for as long as you can remember. If you truly can’t think of a single person you know who’s had work done, just give it a little time. The number of women (and men) getting cosmetic procedures today is on the rise with no imaginable slowdown in sight. Joel Stein wrote an intriguing cover story piece in TIME Magazine last month titled Nip. Tuck. Or Else. The full article can be found online at TIME Magazine.

The reality, as Stein puts it is that “you’re going to get a cosmetic procedure for the same reason you wear makeup: because every other woman is.” Great, you might say to yourself. Another thing we women can add to the list to try and keep up with our ever-younger looking peers and the new “norm” which is a perfectly refreshed-looking face on a smooth-skinned, effortlessly toned body. Well, our view here at CosMedic Clinic is a little different. We don’t want you to feel like you need to get plastic surgery just because everyone else is. We want you to want to get plastic surgery for YOU and only you. Our rule of thumb is that if there is a part of your body that bothers you every day and every day you wake up wanting to change it, then plastic surgery might just be the very thing for you.

If this is something you’ve been contemplating, you may want to consider a personal consultation with Dr. Platis. If you want to learn more, please give us a call. Kate and Whitney would be happy to answer any questions you may have!
