Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
This procedure removes excess skin and fat from the middle
and lower abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles. This
reduces a protruding abdomen.
Consultation will involve a thorough discussion of the
risks and benefits of the procedure as well as an exam,
which will aid in Dr. Platis informing you how he will perform
your procedure.
Procedure
The procedure works by making an incision just above the
pubic area. The skin is separated from the abdominal wall
to reveal the abdominal muscles. The muscles are tightened
by pulling them close together and stitching them into a
better position. The skin is then stretched down and the
extra skin is removed. A new hole is cut for your navel
but your actual belly button will be the same there will
just be a small incision around it. By tightening the muscles
and removing the excess skin your new abdomen will be flat
and usually free of any stretch marks that may have been
present before the procedure.
Recovery
For the first few days you will probably need to control
pain with medication. Most people will return to work within
two weeks, depending on their pre-surgery fitness level.
Scars will never disappear completely but they are below
the panty line so they are concealed even in a bathing suit.
