Laser Hair Removal

Lasers can be used for a variety of procedures, and different therapies require different lasers. For hair removal we prefer to use the GentleLase system from Candela. The GentleLase is an alexandrite laser and emits a beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed into heat, which can disable the hair follicle and leave the surrounding skin unchanged. The skin is further protected during treatment by a dynamic cooling process where a cryogen is sprayed on the skin cooling the upper layers providing patients increased comfort.

Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, and waxing, provide only temporary relief. Until now, the only semi-permanent way to remove hair has been by electrolysis, which can be time-consuming, and is limited to small areas. Scarring, allergic reactions, and ingrown hairs are common side effects of these hair removal methods. The GentleLase safely removes unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. Facial and bikini areas are usually completed in less than ten minutes; legs and larger areas can take longer.

FAQs

What precautions should be taken before and after treatment?

Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Bleaching, plucking, and waxing should also be avoided for 6 weeks prior to treatment in order to maximize the effectiveness of the procedure.

How many treatments will I need?

Hair grows in cycles. The number of treatments required depends upon your skin, hair coloring, and coarseness of the hair. Everyone will require a minimum of 3 treatments as the process is only effective on hairs in their active phase of the growth cycle. Several weeks after the initial treatment additional follicles will be entering their active growth phase, at which they can also be effectively treated. This will need to be repeated until all hair follicles can be effectively treated. For most patients this requires between 4 and 6 treatments.
